ABOUT US

As the Pro Loco Trequanda APS, we commit ourselves every day to the promotion of our territory, enhancing its tourist, cultural, and gastronomic excellences. Our goal is to make Trequanda and its beauty known, contributing to the development and growth of the local community.
In addition to promoting the territory, we serve as a point of reference for residents and visitors. We organize events that promote social interaction and the appreciation of local traditions.
We cater to the locals, tourists, and anyone in need of information or wishing to better know our territory. For the citizens, our office is a place where they can find information about local activities, about events organized by associations in the area, and about initiatives promoted by the Municipal Administration.
We welcome and assist tourists by managing the Tourist Information and Reception Office (IAT) of the Municipality of Trequanda, providing directions, suggestions, and all the necessary support for the best experience on our territory.

ACTIVITIES

INFORMATION POINT

We are the point of reference for those who wish to discover Trequanda and its surrounding area. Every day we welcome residents and visitors, providing information about events, routes, services and local initiatives. We also share public interest communications and news from the Local Government and local associations.

EVENTS ORGANIZATION

We organize events that enhance the local area and narrate its traditions, culture and excellences. Throughout the year, we promote initiatives dedicated to food and wine culture, local heritage and moments of gathering. We collaborate with local entities to create opportunities for encounter and sharing.

LOCAL TOURISM PROMOTION

We promote local tourism activities to raise awareness of the opportunities offered by our region. We provide space for posters, informational materials, and initiatives dedicated to experiences, events, and services. We share useful information with residents and tourists, fostering the discovery of local excellence.

LOCAL PRODUCTS SALES

Within our tourist office, we have a space dedicated to selling local products, with the aim of enhancing the excellences of the region.
We offer a selection of food products, like wine and oil made in the Municipality of Trequanda, along with non-food articles, including terracotta creations, books and souvenirs.
Through this activity, we contribute to promoting the work of the local entities and to offering visitors an authentic memory of our region.

TEAM

We are a group of volunteers who dedicate time, passion, and skills to the enhancement of the local area and community service. Our commitment is completely voluntary and stems from the desire to actively contribute to the growth of Trequanda and its initiatives.
Each of us contributes our own abilities to achieve the association′s goals, collaborating with a spirit of sharing and participation. Our association is open to anyone wishing to join and make their own contribution.
The management of activities is entrusted to the Executive Board, elected by the Assembly of members, which coordinates the work of volunteers and promotes the projects and initiatives of the Pro Loco.

THE HISTORY OF TREQUANDA

Nestled amongst the forests, vineyards, and olive groves of the Tuscan countryside, Trequanda stands at an altitude of 462 meters and boasts very ancient origins. The first settlements date back to the Etruscans, as archaeological finds and numerous place names in the territory testify. The origin of the name "Trequanda" is still uncertain today and has given rise to various hypotheses over time. It is thought it may derive from Tarkonte (or Tarkun), the mythical Etruscan hero who founded the area; or from the expression "terram quandam", which means "a certain land" or "a particular/isolated land". Some traditions suggest that the name recalls a truce signed in the past between rival armies near the village.
During the Middle Ages, the village was first ruled by the Cacciaconti della Berardenga and then by the Cacciaconti della Scialenga. From the 13th century, its history intertwined with that of the Republic of Siena, until it definitively came under Sienese rule in 1309. From 1552, it was part of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
Today, the Municipality of Trequanda also includes the picturesque medieval villages of Castelmuzio and Petroio, which retain the charm of their history through narrow streets, churches, and buildings of great historical and architectural value.
